€290 a year against €29 a month is two months off, and the reason is not a discount ladder: this product is worth more the longer you keep it. The archive you can search grows by a day every day, and a year of briefings tells you something that did not exist in month one. Twelve months in, you own something a new subscriber cannot buy.

Before you pay
A subscription runs by the month or by the year and can be cancelled at any time to the end of the paid period — the button for that is in the footer of every page, and it works without signing in. Consumers have 14 days to withdraw; the details, including when that right lapses because you asked us to start immediately, are in the right of withdrawal. Cancelling never deletes anything: your account and profile stay, only the current week closes again.
